The 4-star Oceania Le Métropole Montpellier Hotel is characterized by utter luxury and well-being. After a year of titanic renovation works up to early 2017, you can now come and rediscover this truly charming hotel that successfully blends modernity with a touch of exoticism, in the spirit of the grand luxury hotels of the Golden Age. Tucked away behind its grand majestic facade, our hotel in the center of Montpellier unveils a brand new area devoted to well-being with hammam, fitness room, massages and a range of treatments. This moment of total relaxation continues with the spa and pool, bordered by the garden’s palm trees which provide shade for the terrace.
This is one of the most beautiful hotels in Montpellier to enjoy the swimming pool in the center of the city or a romantic weekend in Montpellier. The styles are blended in perfect harmony and the decoration with its copper notes sets off the extraordinary building to perfection. From the hotel lobby, through the cozy English-style bar and the superb La Closerie restaurant, not to mention the prestigious lounges, the décor has been completely revisited to restore all the building’s original panache and character. The high ceilings, frescoes with romantic cherubs and prestigious parquet floors have all been completely renovated to restore all the prestige of this historic 4-star hotel in Montpellier.
Natural light is everywhere, from the large glass roof of the restaurant to the regal staircase in the lobby, staged by a magnificent and elegant suspension floating in the air. As you wander the corridors, the parakeets escaped from under the great glass roof have taken up residence on the walls, inviting you to visit our 96 rooms and suites. The decoration is personalized for each type of room, paying homage to the different times of day: the warmth of the southern sunshine, a subtle combination of oranges and violets evoking the beautiful evening light or the enveloping softness of coppery midnight blue of a setting sun.
Our La Closerie restaurant at the Oceania Montpellier Hotel was awarded a prestigious Gault & Millau chef’s hat in 2018. Its refined and original cuisine with accents of the South can be savored in the hotel’s garden in fine weather, and our restaurant terrace is even listed among the 15 most amazing terraces in Montpellier! Step through the door and experience the intensity of the city while enjoying the exceptional calm and green surroundings, with pool and spa, of this unexpected haven right in the city center. And we also serve our delicious gourmet cuisine in the glass roofed conservatory bathed in light from the summer garden.
The hotel also boasts 6 seminar rooms for all your professional events and meetings, with room for 6 to 120 participants.
The history of our hotel in Montpellier:
The “Métropole” hotel was built in 1898 by renowned architect Thomas Piétri on the model of the prestigious luxury Golden Age hotels on the Côte d’Azur. All the rooms were heated by open fires, fed by wood from large wicker baskets. The elevator was hydraulic, and the last one bearing the date of 1898, a true masterpiece of the cabinetmaker’s art, still adorns the lobby and serves as an alcove for the business center. The hotel was purchased by Oceania Hotels in 2013 and renamed the Oceania Le Métropole**** Montpellier, and was completely renovated in 2016. This emblematic part of Montpellier’s history has hosted numerous celebrities, including the Queen of Italy, Helen of Montenegro, widow of Victor-Emmanuel III, who, forced into exile, spent two years at the hotel between 1950 and 1952. One of the seminar rooms at the hotel now bears her name in homage to the Queen. And as the guestbook attests, many other prestigious personalities have also stayed at the Métropole: François Truffaut shot several scenes of his famous film “L’homme qui aimait les femmes” here, Ella Fitzgerald and her orchestra stayed here along with a whole host of other famous names: Jean Marais, Michel Bouquet, François Perrier, Darry Cowl, Louis Welle, Jacques Villeret, mime artist Marceau who illustrated the guestbook with a drawing, Claude Piéplu, Léo Ferré, Charles Aznavour, Jacques Dufhilo, Jean-Jacques Goldman… all have put their stamp on our prestigious guestbook. There’s no doubt about it; this hotel is an absolute must to immerse yourself in the history and life of Montpellier.
